Darts Tournament, 18 February
For the first time since 2020 (2021 and 2022 were cancelled due to COVID ), we were able to hold our darts tournament at the Barrhaven Legion. Fourteen teams, representing the MG, Jaguar, Healey, and Triumph clubs, battled. In the end, the “Healey Boys” Peter Boosamra and Laurier Roy beat the host OVTC team “Traguar” of Martin Burtt and Gord Robertson. Thanks to Chuck H. for the picture and writeup. Here is a list of tournament winners over the years.
Club Meeting, 23 May
Great night for a drive to our monthly meeting, and a good turn out of cars. TR8s were is abundance!
Hudson British Car Show, 28 May, by Bob Thomas
The British Car Show in Hudson, QC was held for the first time since 2018 due to Covid restrictions. Since its beginning 20 years ago, the show has been held every second year, but the organizers announced that from this year on it will be held every year.
The OVTC had 4 cars at the Hudson Show this year. Mike Solonynko, David Huddleson, and Bob Thomas met up at Tim Hortons in Winchester in their TR8s and travelled across County Road 43 into Quebec. Claude and Nicole Gagne arrived at the show field in the early afternoon with their TR8. The show was held on a tree lined sports field which is very close to the restaurants and services of downtown Hudson. The weather was spectacular, and the estimated car count was over 150 cars which included seldom seen models like a 1949 Morris Minor and a 1959 Hillman Minx. The weather and the venue were fantastic and the show was a great opportunity to meet up with our "Quebec cousins" in the British Car hobby. The 2024 Hudson British Car Show will be held on the last Sunday in May next year. Photos by Bob T., Mike S, and Claude G.

Club Drive to Newboro, 10 June
Many thanks to Lynda Huddleson for organizing a lovely drive that started with coffee and pastries at Cobbs in Barrhaven, and continued on to the Stirling Lodge in Newboro for lunch. Thanks also to Bob Thomas for mapping out the route, and Mike S. for the pictures.
Club Meeting, 27 June
At our club meeting on 27 June, Mike Solonynko presented Kevin Kealty with the 2022 British Car Council Order of British Car Enthusiasts Award in recognition of his years of work managing and selling OVTC regalia on behalf of the club. Thanks Kevin!
Club Meeting, 25 July, by Bob Thomas
Mike S. explained the attraction of Triumph sports cars to a young couple that was passing by and introduced their young children to the cockpit of his TR6. Mike also insisted we take his TR6 with it’s recently installed RATCO frame for a test drive which several of us did. Wow what a difference, its like a whole new car with a great ride and very tight handling. David H. demonstrated an electric diagnostic tool he borrowed from the TWOA and used to help figure out some issues with the fuel injection system on his TR8.
Club Drive, 5 August, by Bob Thomas
Mike S. organized another drive for the club and any other sports car enthusiasts on August 5. We met up at the Hourglass Cafe in Perth, and the OVTC group included Mike S., Terry M., Gary K. and his son Kris, David and Lynda H., and Bob T. We were pleasantly surprised to have former OVTC members Jeff and Cheryl P. join us in a Mercedes roadster that Cheryl recently purchased. Led by Mike, the group followed paved county roads to Maberly for lunch and ice cream. After the stop, we headed north and then west through Mississippi Station and down to Sharbot Lake and then back home. Thank you Mike for planning a great route and arranging for perfect driving weather!
Club Meeting, 22 August, by Bob Thomas
There were 9 cars at the meeting, 3 TR6s, 4 TR8s, 1 MGB, and a BMW. Mike S. gave a slide presentation on the improvements he has made to his TR6 including the installation of a new RATCO frame and modifications to his engine. Mike felt that while expensive, the modifications he made were well worth it and he’s very pleased with the results. Chuck H. gave a presentation on how he modified and strengthened the stock TR6 frame he bought from Mike S. to address several known weaknesses in the original design. David H. gave a talk about Harris Mann who died last week at his home in England. He worked for several companies during his career and designed many cars including the Triumph TR7. David and Bob T. met Harris at the VTR Convention in Dobson, NC and enjoyed talking with this modest yet talented man.
OVTC BBQ at Otter Lake, 2 September, by Bob Thomas
The weather was perfect on 2 September for the 4 cars that met up in Ottawa to travel to Otter Lake on the Quebec side of the Ottawa river. Mike S. and Gord R. led the way in Mike’s TR6 followed by David and Lynda H. in a TR8, Terry and Barb M. in a TR4, and Bob T. and Fran W. in a TR8. The group met up with Gary and Betsy K. in their Spitfire near Otter Lake and joined Chuck H. at the cottage. We were greeted by at the cottage by the hard working Kim who had been busy preparing the food. Chef Gord did an excellent job at the BBQ and we all enjoyed a great meal on the lawn near the lake shore. Afterwards, some of the group went swimming and kayaking while the rest of us enjoyed some conversation and the waterfront view. Many of the group travelled home on the Ontario side of the Ottawa River following an excellent route mapped out by Gord. Thank you Kim and Gord R for sharing your beautiful cottage property with us and for your hard work in making the day so enjoyable for the OVTC group.
OVTC Fall Colours Tour, 30 September, by Bob Thomas
The OVTC Fall Colours Tour took place on Saturday, 30 September 30. Club members John and Sheila, with the assistance of their beautiful dog Pooh Bear, once again hosted a BBQ for us at their gorgeous home near Calabogie. The 10 cars that came together in Almonte for the drive were treated to a warm, sunny day that was made to order for admiring the changing leaf colours in the area. Mike S outdid himself with his tour route this year finding paved roads that were both scenic and fun to drive. After an excellent BBQ, the group split up with some heading home, some going into Calabogie and a few checking the racing going on at nearby Calabogie Motorsports Park. Thank you again for your hospitality John and Sheila.
Christmas Party, 5 December
Wonderful time and great turn out at our annual Christmas Party. Once again this year, Emily Mirsky at COBS Bread in Barrhaven donated a wonderful box of homemade treats to our club Christmas Party. The treats were very much appreciated! Thanks to Lynda H for organizing the event.
